A leap has been taken here at Drifting Wood and Laura has popped TMO up on Airbnb for the down months. Having spoken to more than one who told her they had always wanted to go on a narrowboat but didn't like the idea of actually cruising! So the deed has been done.

We are passionate about our boats and the safety of our guests and this has matured into both Laura and Dana who are now training to become RYA Helmsman's Course Instructors. As you may or may not know, the Winter months are when The Canal & River Trust carry out vital repairs to the canal system and this can mean limited travel. I am also aware that although navigation can be limited during the colder months this does not deter the hardy, ramblers, explorers, or walkers and more can be found out on the tow paths! As The Mighty Oak is equipped with a Shore Line she can be hooked up to the mains and you have no need to operate the engine. Hot water will be supplied via the Central Heating and the batteries kept on full charge!

Helmsman's Courses on Acorn!

Here at Drifting Wood we really do care about how people enjoy the canals and over the years have realised there are many out there who would love to take the RYA Helmsman's Course, so they can be more confident that when they set off on their travels they have been fully trained in all aspects of safely cruising the canal system. We already have in place the requirement to watch The Boaters Handbook, along with other relevant videos, and our included hands-on-training for an hour. This does go a long way to getting people off to a good start and we wish we could do more!
So that is why we are setting up Drifting Wood Helmsman's Courses ...
Both Dana and Laura will be qualified and all courses will be taken on board Acorn, as she is the perfect learning boat, or should you wish to train aboard your own boat we will be able to accommodate that too!
