So you want to know what to expect when you hire Acorn, I've been asked many times so thought I'd pop some info up here and hope it helps!
As Covid seems to be a new normal and something we all need to be aware of I just wanted to let everyone know that Acorn is deep cleaned between hires and we also use an Antiviral Fog Machine just to make sure there is nothing nasty hiding, nothing can survive that I can assure you!
Firstly if you search for Drifting Wood Canal Breaks on Google you'll find the exact place you'll be meeting myself or Dana, this is also where you can leave safely leave your car while your adventuring. Many ask what to bring my usual reply is yourselves and some provisions, pretty much everything you need will be onboard ready for you, all bedding, towels, tea towels, all cleaning items, the kitchen is fully equipped for four guests with a choice of glasses and mugs ... One guest remarked "When you said you have everything onboard I should have believed you!" Just saves dragging things you won't need with you.
I like people to get the most of their time on Acorn so suggest 9.30 am to meet on the morning of boarding, however we are flexible to work with our guests too. The only thing to bear in mind is we stop at Whitchurch Marina where Acorn is pumped out so you start with an empty toilet tank and the fuel is topped up. During their busy months it is best for us to arrive before 11:30 hence the 9:30 arrival. Obviously some may want a later start but I do like people to be aware that this could mean a slight delay at the marina. Return is midday as although I say 10am if you are reading this bit too I'll know ;o)
I do insist all Acorn's guests watch the Boaters Handbook as this really does give you the Do's & Don'ts that are so important on the canal, even people with experience it blows away those cobwebs too! Dana or myself also accompanies all Acorn's guests for the first 45 minutes, so those not so familiar with the cut get tuition and those familiar get time to settle into handling Acorn.
I do ask for an £80 cash security deposit that is of course returnable minus any losses etc, that does include any maps that fly off her roof so be warned lol
If I've missed anything you'd like to know then please just use the contact form and ask away, or give me a call.
So, if you are wanting a great adventure on the Llangollen Canal why not drop me a line ... I will add, I'm afraid she is not available for 'booze cruises', the canal can be a dangerous place and things can easily go wrong very quickly when the crew aren't on the ball, my boat and her guests safety is of paramount importance to me hence my rule, thank you for understanding. Of course once your cruising for the day is over, this is the perfect time to pour yourself a glass of chilled wine and kick back, after all it is all about the chilling!
